About This Program

Overview
The EV Automotive Technician Apprenticeship Program trains professionals to meet the growing demand for skilled electric vehicle (EV) service experts. Apprentices gain the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to safely diagnose, service, and repair plug-in hybrids and full EVs, focusing on battery systems, advanced electrical components, and power electronics. The program bridges the gap in automotive expertise by preparing technicians to handle EV-specific systems and data communication networks essential for modern vehicle operations. This is the only EV Automotive Technician Apprenticeship Program in the nation and is designed for individuals with prior automotive experience.

Program Structure
Apprentices complete one year of technical instruction and practical labs at the college, covering EV safety, hybrid and electric vehicle principles, battery management, and other EV-related systems. Graduates are prepared to perform diagnostics, routine maintenance, battery management, and ensure safety compliance while staying current with evolving EV technologies. Upon completion, apprentices earn Journeyworker Papers from the Department of Labor & Industry, an EV Automotive College Certificate from CCAC, ASE Certification in High-Voltage Electrical Safety Standards, and the German Kfz-MechatronikerIn System- und Hochvolttechnik Apprenticeship Certificate (DIHK).
